What is a Denturist?

Denturists are members of your family’s dental team. They are professionally trained and licensed to handle the construction, fitting and delivery of dentures directly to you, the patient. They are also able to repair broken dentures, realign existing dentures for a better fit and they can make adjustments to any dentures you currently wear. “A Denturist is dedicated to the fabrication, maintenance and repair of full and partial denture,” says Christine Reekie, DD, of the Riverview Denture Clinic in Parry Sound. Unlike a lot of specialists, you do not need to be referred to a denturist. If you wish to discuss your dental concerns and your prosthodontic (denture) options, you can go ahead and contact a denturist in your area for a consultation.

What will a Denturist do during an examination?

The primary goal of a Denturist is to provide you with dentures that enhance your facial structure and provide comfort while you are eating and going about your daily activities. During your examination, your Denturist will:

  • Take down a medical and dental history to ensure that you are a good candidate for dentures
  • Visually examine your mouth and facial structure
  • If you decide on dentures, an impression will be taken that will be used to create your dentures

Who will make my dentures?

A Denturist is trained to fabricate dentures so the person who examines you will also be the person who makes your dentures in the lab – which is more often than not right onsite. Once your dentures are made, the Denturist will then ensure that the fit is comfortable and secure. If any minor adjustments need to be made they can usually be made immediately which you wait.
