The soft liner alternative for your dentures

If your dentures are causing you chronic pain due to severely receded or flat gums, or from gums that have sharp or bony areas then you might want to consider a permanent soft liner. Offered to denture patients for over 20 years, soft liners use a proven technology that undergoes constant improvement and innovation.

What is a soft liner?

A soft liner is a permanent layer of soft material that is affixed to the surface of your denture and sits between the hard plastic denture and your tender gums. The good news is that a soft liner can be used with new dentures when they are fabricated or they can be made to fit your existing dentures. Either way, with a soft liner in place, your dentures will be more comfortable and will not irritate your sensitive gum tissue.

Are soft liners right for you?

The only requirement for soft liners is that you wear dentures! “Clinical evidence shows that just about everyone who wears dentures can tolerate and benefit from soft liner materials,” says Christine L. Reekie, DD of the Riverview Denture Clinic in Perry Sound. “Once soft liners are in place my patients report that they are more comfortable and eating and chewing is easier than before.”

Is there any down side to soft liners?

The only thing you need to consider when deciding to get soft liners is that you will need to take greater care with your dentures in terms of cleaning them and you will have to commit to regular follow-up visits with your Denturist. Since you should be doing these things with your regular dentures anyway, a soft liner shouldn’t make much of a difference.
