A refrigerator is not a purchase to be made lightly. You want one that will suit your lifestyle and home so here are some tips on how to make that happen:
Know your needs
Ask yourself how you will be using the appliance. If you love throwing dinner parties, consider a French door model that is 22 cubic feet or more. This is best in terms of size and organizational options.
“If they’re into entertaining, they may want something that has an ice feature,” says Tricia Devoe, owner of Sears Hometown Parry Sound. While ice makers don’t come in every model, ask a sales representative if it’s available for your pick.
If you want your kids to have easy access to snacks and drinks, a refrigerator with a top freezer is best but if you want to do less bending to get food, consider one with a bottom freezer.
A great feature for anybody is spill-proof shelving. Even if drinks or sauces get knocked over, they’ll stay on that shelf and not stain the rest of your refrigerator or ruin other food.
Know your size
Have measurements for width, depth and height ready before you go shopping. Keep in mind a refrigerator door will need room to open, so that should play a part in measuring your space.
Be sure what you order can fit through your front door or any other entrance needed to get to the kitchen. It’s easy to get excited about designing your home and also easy to forget that appliances need to get into the home before they can be used.
Know your budget
You should always know how much you want to spend on any major appliance purchase but it’s also important to consider how an energy-efficient refrigerator can help a long-term budget. Energy Star models will provide savings on your hydro bill over time.
Sears has received the 2012 Energy Star Retailer of the Year award from Natural Resources Canada so it’s a great place to find quality appliances. You can call Sears Hometown Parry Sound at 705-746-2191 or visit www.sears.ca.
